Brief description of the Centre/Research Group (including URL if applicable):

“Arquitecto Vandelvira” group is involved in researching and teaching in the field of Art History.

We believe that the study of Art History can open up unique ways to learn about past cultures, society, and the highest achievements of human endeavor.

Understanding works of art requires diverse skills and knowledge. Art Historians consider how works of art are produced, viewed and owned, how art acquires meanings, and how ideas and beliefs are visually communicated. They also explore works of art in relation to broader topics ranging from religion and philosophy to politics and economics.

“Arquitecto Vandelvira” group was founded at the end of the 20th century. The research activities carried out by their researchers are supervised by Professor Pedro Galera Andreu.

Hi is an architectural historian of Early Modern Spain whose researches have encompassed architecture and town planning in southern Spain. His work has focused mainly on architecture in Spain in the 16th and 17th centuries, dealing with issues of patronage and the transmission of continental influences into this country.

Different members of “Arquitecto Vandelvira” group are authors of numerous papers in journals included in the Journal Citation Report (JCR), papers in the proceedings of prestigious International Conference.

This group has an international reputation for our particular approach to Art History. For more information about this researching group, refer to:

Project description:

The project would be developed under the researching group “Arquitecto Vandelvira (HUM 573), dedicated to research and to teach innovation as well as to the application of knowledge in the field of Art History.

In order to develop this project in some specific use cases, we are seeking candidates with one profile/expertise. Some of the research areas in which the group can incorporate a postdoctoral fellow are the following:

1.- History of Architecture.

2.- History of Town planning.

3.- Iconography.

4.- Genre and Art History.

5.- Artistic cultural heritage conservation.

To highlight the relevance of our studies, the research group, in collaboration with other institutions, will organize, after the end of the researching period, conferences of a comparative and multidisciplinary character.
